Local Board Annual Draft Plan

Auckland has 21 local boards representing local communities from Te Hana in the north to Waiuku in the south.

Local boards form a key part of Auckland Council’s governance structure making local decisions and providing local leadership. They complement the regional leadership and big picture decision-making role provided by the mayor and governing body councillors.

The role of your local board is wide ranging, and includes:

  • decision making on local services, facilities and activities in your local board area
  • advocating on your behalf when decisions are being made by other agencies
  • providing input to the development of regionwide stategies and plans
  • funding community groups through community grant funding

Your local board takes its guidance from you, the community. An important way it does this is through the development of a local board plan.

These ground-breaking plans set out the aspirations and priorities for your community and guide the decisions that your local board makes on what happens in your area over the next three years and beyond.

Submissions for the plan have closed, and hearings will be held between August 22 and September 16 2011, with the final plan being adopted on 31 November 2011.
