I have been both interested and increasingly concerned by the issues facing us relating to climate change. It seems to me after quite extensive review of publicly available information that we can no longer refute’ ignore or otherwise side step action on this issue.
The data on impacts seems to get more alarming every time I review it. As both a mother and a business person, I am deeply concerned that no action on this issue will have far-reaching impacts on the quality of the lives of our children, the wellbeing of our primary sector, and the economic prosperity of our country.

On a global basis the impacts are calamitous potentially. We need to be pragmatic in what we can achieve, but we DO need to move to act and seek the counsel of our trusted scientists on what can be done, and act with URGENCY.

I do not adhere to the view that ‘we can’t really influence it so why bother’? We certainly can set a good global example, and equally important we can move to prepare our nation in the best way we can for what’s to come. However unpalatable that may be, responsibility for a nation extends beyond a three year term of government. I believe there are ‘clean initiatives’ we can sensibly take, and issues around carbon neutrality to offset areas where the solutions are more difficult. This is everyone’s problem, including ours in New Zealand

As a voter I underline this is perhaps my most important priority of any current issue facing our country in that I see the potential implications as considerable and far reaching

Thanks Debbie. We don’t have all the information we need as yet about this proposal, but it is really important that as many community members as possible have an opportunity to add to the discussion. Alan Cole is to be commended for putting forward the communities of Clarks Beach and Patumahoe who are undergoing increased residential growth and living density.

I understand that Patumahoe Primary School already has access to Ultra Fast Broadband, and if it is rolled out to the wider community it would most likely safeguard present and future community access and use for some time.

I am involved in two horticultural businesses and a fast and robust internet connection for the long term that’s not going to be de-railed by the extremely rapid property growth in our area is vital to my business

Up to recently the connection has been fair, and adequate but already with the new houses being built and the number of residents rapidly increasing the performance has been showing signs of strain re internet connection speed

It’s important to me our community is pro-active rather than waiting with the ‘ambulance at the bottom of the cliff’ when a solution is more difficult

Hi there, I have been informed today that there is to be a humdinger chicken farm
in Patumahoe – can you please let me know any details on how to object.
I buy eggs from farm that’s free range. Thought the govt was stopping the shocking practise
of caged animals.
Im having a house built at the moment in subdivision and its such a beautiful place.

28th September 2012 – Brief update: Andrew Sinclair has a verbal assurance that the traffic devices that cause concern as cyclist hazards are to be removed, and a formal review of the situation will take place early 2013.

Was also speaking to one of the parents from Patumahoe this morning, and she cycles with her kids to school every morning from Sedgebrook Road.

Last year, immediately after the first installation – she informed the school of the hazard it presented to cyclists by forcing them into the path of the traffic.

Of further interest – is that fact that she now crosses over to Hunter Road and uses the footpath (and by doing so, she readily admits that she provides a hazard to pedestrians) but in terms of personal safety for her children, believes this is the better option.

Unfortunate that other transport modes were not considered when rolling out this scheme.

Hi Nick,
The Kea Crossings do seem to be a particularly old-fashioned and much maligned method of traffic calming. If you search Wikipedia under “traffic calming” – the road narrowing approach is defined – “However, some UK and Irish “traffic calming” schemes, particularly involving road narrowings, are viewed as extremely hostile and have been implicated directly in death and injury to cyclists.[6][7}”.
We are particularly concerned because we have been advocated for the implementation of some of the other methods since the beginning, and despite many opportunities for Auckland Council and Auckland Transport to inform us of their plans – they have failed to do so.
We are unable to comment if we are unaware.
However, if it seems the concerns of the committee are shared by the community – and it seems they are – we will continue to ask for change.

Hi, The response from Andy baker defies belief, if this is the quality of thinkling that is controlling the structures along our roadways we need to be very scared.
There is a good case for a narrowed crossing point in front of the school but all the other Kea crossings/narrowings are clear hazards, these pinch points are no different to negotiating parked cars, they are squeeze zones waiting to kill riders trying to compete with a car and a Kenworth.
There are several more enlightened & effective methods of calming traffic that have been proven in Europe, Andy’s response sounds more like scrambling for excuses for having spent thousands of ratepayers dollars on a clearly failed initiative rather than being willing to take a clear & open view of effective road safety, if Andy Baker and the Board were genuinely “concerned with road safety for children…” they would not have constructed these “killing zones” along our highways.
